There are no rules about having readings during your wedding ceremony. You either have them or you don’t. It’s that simple.
For the have-ers out there, if you’ve chosen to have a reading or two during your ceremony and you haven’t found the right one yet, then maybe this might be the reading for you.
Now, as you might imagine, I hear A LOT of readings, some much more than others. So it really surprises me when I come across a reading that I’ve never heard of before and which I totally dig. I love it when this happens, which is why I’m very excited to share this one with you.
What I also love about this reading was that it was chosen by the step-father of one of my recent brides, which he then read during the ceremony. More and more couples seem to be giving their readers full responsibility to not only read the reading but to go the whole hog and choose the reading too. (Traditionally, couples choose the reading for someone else to read.) If you’re interested, I’ve written tons more about having surprise readings for your ceremony. It really adds an awesome twist to your ceremony and gives a fun element of surprise, as you get to hear what your readers have chosen for the first time during the actual ceremony itself!
If you have followed some of my other posts about ‘new’ readings that I’ve come across, you’ll probably notice that I have a very strong taste for a certain type of reading. I seem to always gravitate towards readings which are fun, very modern in nature and are realistic. But that’s just me.
At the end of the day, as I say to all my wedding couples, if you decide on having any readings at all, then make sure you go with your gut. If a reading does nothing for you, as this one may well not, then don’t have it. Don’t compromise on how a reading makes you feel for the sake of having a reading. There’s nothing worse than hearing a reading on your wedding day that you kind of wish you hadn’t chosen.

This reading makes me feel so warm inside. It’s light, it’s funny, but maybe a bit too quintessentially British for some of my non-British readers. Maybe you could change ‘fish and chips’ references for your more local delights. I’m a big fan of that too, changing bits of readings to reflect you. I think it makes a reading even more personal and I’m sure the authors won’t mind!
And if you’re wondering, Top of the Pops is a music charts show we have in the U.K, that’s been on for as long as I can remember! It’s quite an insitution.
